The project was implemented by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), working hand in hand with a US-based Space partnership. The Satellite was initially planned to be launched on an Airance 5 rocket on 16 December 2017 to celebrate the Victory Day of Bangladesh. But for want of firm guarantee form Ariane Space for the Date, BRTc chose Falcon 9 launch vehicle instead. The Satellite is named after the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It carried a total of 40Ku-Band and C-band transponders with a capacity of 1600 megahertz and a predicted life span to exceed 15 years. It was launched on 11 May 2018. After launching the Satellite, Bangladesh began to receive the test signal from it on 12 May 2018.
